A Peek Into My Life::A Weekly Saturday MeMe

Category A Peek Into My Life

I never come up with creative ideas on my own, but I saw this. I thought it was a great idea, but not everyone is a flickr person or has a flickr account. Yet I thought it would make a good Saturday MeMe series to end the week on. Plus I like the idea of sharing my life with my 10’s of readers and sharing a picture from the week sounds like a fun thing to do.

So…I will give you a photo once a week (on Saturday) to give you a sneak peek into my life, and I think it would be fun for you all to do the same. I’m going to do a Mr. Linky so you can add a peek into your life on your blog and link it back to here. :D   I am also contemplating doing a photo contest from time to time, complete with prizes. :)

Here are the rules…Show a peek into your life with a photo from your week. A photo of your kitchen counter, a pet doing something goofy,  a child playing, a husband napping, your work area, whatever! Real life, real photos. Keep the photo’s G-Rated please.  You don’t have to explain the photo, the photo should explain itself. You don’t have to have a fancy camera, any camera will do. Link your post address (not your blog address) back here on Mr. Linky so everyone can share in the fun.  To link just simply put at the top of your blog post… This post is part of A Peek Into My Life. (I won’t be making a graphic, because I feel the graphic would take away from the photo).  OH! And don’t forget to leave a comment. :D

Here is my photo for this week.

I can’t wait to see yours!

My recent discovery…Tessa Kiros

I first became aware of Tessa Kiro when I was reading a blog post over at Soule Mama. Amanda Soule was sharing about making ricotta gnocchi with tomato pesto sauce from Tessa’s book Apples for Jam. Being one that strives for a European flair to my kitchen habits and one who loves home style cooking, I had to get the book.

Upon ordering the book, I discovered there were other cook books by Tessa. Only being able to afford just one at the time, I went ahead and purchased Apples for Jam.

I love the cookbook! It’s wonderful, and I cannot wait to try many of the recipes Tessa has shared. I also can’t wait to be able to get the rest of her cookbooks. Including Falling Cloudberries.

I discovered this video on You Tube, which made me fall more in love with Tessa’s cooking.

Looking healthy on my profile

I was looking at my old profile pictures I’ve used on places like twitter and facebook, and to my surprise I noticed something about myself.

Here’s a profile picture from about two years ago…Take note of the bags under my eyes and the puffiness of my cheeks.

I honestly did not feel well two years ago. I had absolutely no energy and all I wanted to do was sleep. This pic was taken just prior of being diagnosed with PCOS by a medical doctor. I had diagnosed myself, but I needed a doctor to diagnose me so that I could get the medical treatment I needed.

This is my profile picture of me from last year…I’m looking a bit better.

I had dropped 30 pounds when I was placed on my meds for PCOS, but I had not started a good diet regiment yet. I was still running low on energy, but I could tell things were starting to improve.

This is my current profile pic…

I can totally see the difference!  My face looks thinner and healthier. I have more energy too, although I find some days I still need to rest and nap. My body is still healing, but I’m starting to feel so much better than I did 2 years ago, yet I have so far to go yet.

I have lost 15 pounds since January 4, 2010 and I’m eating a very healthy diet as well. But I can honestly say my diet still has room for improvement and I’m hoping to keep adding more fresh fruits and veggies to my daily food intake, especially when all the farmer markets open up again here in the next month or two.

Spring Break

This week Erin’s boyfriend, Caleb, has been on Spring break (he’s a freshman in college). Erin and Caleb suggested we go to the driving rage sometime this week. Since yesterday was a beautiful day, we went.

I took Erin, Caleb and his little brother so they could hit a few golf balls. (Caleb in on the men’s golf team at the college he attends and is getting ready for some Spring tournaments).

It was actually nice for me to hang out in the car with the windows rolled down while the kids hit golf balls.  There was a breeze, but it was warm and sunny and the fresh air was sweet.

I took my cookbook Apples for Jam to thumb through and get ideas for next weeks meals. Of course I have to convert all the recipes to gluten free ones. If they turn out yummy I’ll share the recipes on my Healthy Foodie blog.

Go make yourself a home

Category House and Home

We lost our home, in a spiritual sense, back when my husband went through a series of layoffs and we found ourselves involved with a church that nearly sucked all our joy out of our family life. There was no real rest and peace in our home for about six plus years. A dark cloud and a spirit of oppression had settled in and around our family and we found ourselves weighed down by ideas and circumstances that did not flow at all with our family life.  During those six plus years my homemaking seemed to be placed on the back burner as we fought a long hard spiritual battle for the soul of our family.

Now that my husband has regained steady employment and we have joined a church that ministers to our whole family with love and respect, we have regained our joy in the Lord. Although there is still some healing needed in our family, we are finally back on the path of life that the Lord laid out for us and the atmosphere in our home is becoming very peaceful again!

With the help of our very talented artsy daughter and the muscles and energy of our son, we are putting a lot of energy into reorganizing and redecorating our little house into a joyful, cozy home.  A place where we can laugh, love, work, play and dream. I also want to offer shared fellowship, peaceful silence, a comfortable chair to those who would come to visit.

Besides painting and putting in a new kitchen floor and working on things that need to be fixed and trying to decorate to express who we are. We are starting to feel like us again, if that makes sense at all. Each day that goes by we feel a peaceful rhythm that is taking hold and I can honestly say, the peaceful spirit of the Lord abides in our home.
