Stuff for my wall

After Erin painted the one wall a dark chocolate brown in our living room it was left pretty blank, with the exception of a tin artsy thing I found on clearance for $12 at ALCO, that I had been eyeballing for several weeks until the price came down (I bought the last one too), there has been nothing else placed on the wall.

Most of my walls in my living room are covered with pictures of my children. I want the decor in my house to say love, family, and faith. At least that’s what I strive for.

Therefore picking out things to hang on my walls are more than just making a wall pretty, it’s about giving my home an atmosphere that really does say Home Sweet Home.

I found three pieces today at a local ma and pop owned store that I believe helps say just that. I love these pieces and how they came together.

My favorite piece is the Willow Tree family piece. I love Willow Tree products. I’ve just never owned one before. But when I saw this piece I saw my family.

Simplifying My Life and My Blog

Posted 08 Mar 2010 — by Anita
Category This & That

Just like I’ve been purging and organizing my closets I decided to purge and organize my blog. This year will go down as the year of change for me, that is for sure!

Yes we are eating healthier more now then ever. I felt like my blog here was becoming a recipe blog with all the talk about food, gluten-free, low-glycemic, recipes, baking new breads. So I put together a blog just for sharing about food…it’s called The Healthy Foodie. I moved all my gluten-free/low-glycemic recipes over there. I hope to add more recipes and such as I learn how to cook super healthy.

Take a look around…I’ve eliminated the clutter and decided to only post the blogs I’m currently reading. Sure I pop in on the other blogs I used to have listed, but the blogs on my sidebar are the blogs that I check almost daily. They are blogs that inspire me and I’m getting to know the ladies who write those blogs, some on a personal level.

I will continue to share about my transition to a simpler, less cluttered life here on my blog. I will also continue to update you on my weight loss. So far I’ve lost 15 of the 100 pounds I need to loose in order to be at a healthy weight. I’m not using a diet program of any sort. I’m simply eating whole foods that are low in sugar and high in nutrition!

Monday Monday

Posted 08 Mar 2010 — by Anita
Category This & That

I’m being a copy cat today. I love the way Erin over at Blue Bird Baby does this thing on Monday’s sharing her outfit and links she likes. I’m gonna do the link part, but not the clothing part. Read on and you’ll figure out why…

Well, my life certainly has gone through some changes these past couple years. All positive of  course. Not only am I back on track with eating healthy, wholesome, whole-foods, but I’m loosing weight (slowly). I’m down 15 pounds since January 4, 2010. Whoot! Five more pounds and I get to reward myself with a pretty necklace. Of course even after the next five pounds come off (hopefully soon), I will still have 80 more to go. But hey! 15 pounds is a milestone, don’t ya think?

I’m already thinking of clothes I want to buy for the thinner me, when I meet my goal in a year or so. For now I purchase disposable clothes as Sara over at Live Wildly calls them, because I really don’t want to spend a lot of money on clothes when I’m only wearing them for a short time. I’ve already gone down three sizes over the past year and in five pounds I will most likely drop down another. So against my better judgement of supporting consumerism at it’s worse, I will buy cheap clothes from Wally World, Target and Kmart…gasp! Okay, but seriously folks, who wants to spend tons of money on clothing that is only going to  be worn for a month or two while the body is down sizing?

Once I reach my goal weight I will start to focus on building a closet of good quality long lasting clothing. I have a few places in mind of where I want to shop and what I want to buy. I’m not into name brands, so I don’t worry about buying high fashion or what’s in style. However I will spend a bit of money to get something that is durable and lasts longer than a season.

As I purge my closet of things I don’t wear, won’t wear, and can’t wear, etc. and give them to a charity organization here in my community, I have begun to replace my worn out, cheap, made for one season only, disposable shoes with durable, long lasting ones. They are not cheap. Yet considering how long these shoes will most likely last, I know I’m getting my money’s worth out of them.

I recently purchased a pair of Birkenstock clogs. OH MY WORD! They are so comfy and so well made! I can’t believe I’ve never bought these before. I can tell just by looking at them they are going to last a very long time, not to mention they feel as if they could last a lifetime. This summer I’m gonna purchase some Birkenstock sandals for sure. Purchasing these higher price durable shoes will mean I’ll have less shoes in my closet, but you know. If they last as long as I’ve been told they will, it won’t matter a bit to me. I’d rather have a couple pair of high quality, durable, long lasting shoes than a zillion cheap, only made for a season disposable shoes. That’s how I feel about clothing and basically everything else.

Okay…links…

  • I’m lovin’ this song right now.

  • Everyone is getting one of these for their birthday this year!
  • This product has given my gluten-intolerant teen daughter hope.

  • I want to wear this when I do yoga when I’m skinny again.
  • I like shopping at this grocery store, this grocery store and this grocery store. I just wish they were all closer!
  • I’m planning to get one of these this spring and it will have one of these and one of these on it.
  • I also love this dress.

You all have a wonderful Monday!

Saturday::House Projects

Category Family, House and Home

We are limited on the time we spent working on house projects. We do as much as we can on Saturdays, if Saturday allows.

Today was one of those allow days.

My husband did a bit of work on our kitchen cabinets. No, we haven’t painted them yet. But we are working toward that. He built a shelf in the deep cabinet above my built in oven so that I could organize my small appliances better.

Meanwhile I spent the better part of my afternoon purging my kitchen cabinets of things I didn’t need or use. I love that my cabinets are less cluttery and may do it again in the future.

Erin, my darling girl, painted a wall in my living room a dark brown. She’s helping me redecorate and felt that we needed a wall a bit darker in the living room to make the room warmer and cozy. She was right. It made a huge difference in our living room and I love it!  We still have a bit more work to do in the living room, but it’s starting to come together nicely. (Sorry for the dark picture, but trying to take a picture of a dark wall in the evening time doesn’t always work out.)

My good son, Sean, did laundry for us. He’s good at it and I love that he is willing to pitch in where needed. He also took down our, ahem, Christmas lights outside. Yeah, I know. But the weather hasn’t been the best and we’ve dragged our feet about bringing them down. But hey, they are down now.

My last chore of the day, I threw together my first batch of the master recipe for Gluten-Free Crusty Boule. Tomorrow we shall have our first loaf of homemade gluten-free bread!
